The solo's are original solos by Dom in the styles of some of the great masters, Philly Joe Jones, Elvin Jones, Art Blakey, Max Roach, Alan Dawson, Roy Haynes and Steve Gadd.

After teaching at Arizona State University for 20 years Dom has put together a book that will help any college student have drum set solo's for whatever they need them for.

The are five different groove styles covered: Afro Cuban 6/8, Slow Samba, Cha Cha, Mozambique, and Fast Samba. Each style is performed three different ways: Full Groove-with Steve and Dom playing, then the same track with just Steve Gadd, and finally the same track with just Dom Moio.

This book is a great tool for drummers, but works for all
instrumentalists looking for fantastic play-along groove tracks.

There are 15 tracks in all and Troy Luccketta of Tesla fame joins the duo on the last track.

A CD recording is included with this book.

I put together this play along CD for the simple reason that a lot of my drum set and percussion students learn latin grooves but cannot play them up to the tempo of the recordings that are available. So, these four grooves are at a slower tempo than they are usually played, but I played all of the parts so that the feel would be right and the player can practice them with the other percussion parts being played.

Drum set players can use this to solo over as well as to learn the actual groove. The key to all of these rhythms is to get them in the pocket and groove. Each rhythm is played first with all of the written parts; then with no drums; then with no congas.

Conga players can also use these grooves to solo and to learn the parts with the right feel. The tracks with the drum set left out really help to hear the conga parts clearly.

This is volume includes a CD with tracks and a booklet with charts for all the parts in Songo, Afro Cuban 6/8, Guaguanco & Bomba.

Enjoy the grooves and learn all the patterns. Then, you can work on increasing the speed at your own pace. But remember: THE FEEL IS EVERYTHING!!!!!
